Implication of Teaching and Learning

The behaviorist theory by B.F. Skinner, primarily his work on operant conditioning, has greatly impacted education. The following are some noteworthy implications:   1. In classroom management; reinforcement and punishment include either positive reinforcement of excellent behaviour demonstrated by pupils done through praise, incentives, and other desired acts or punishment from the teacher caused by undesired behaviour of pupils.  2. Feedback and Assessment; A timely response is a must while utilizing this theory as doing so allows rectification of misconceptions and reinforcement of accurate feedback. This facilitates the connection between consequences and action to form.    Programs for behaviour modifications; based on the theories of operant conditioning can be used with kids who exhibit difficult behaviors. In these systems, positive actions are rewarded and negative behaviors are dealt with appropriately through sanctions. Example: To handle disrupt...

Tenets of the Theory

The Behaviourist Theory by B.F. Skinner B. F. Skinner's theory of learning says that a person is first exposed to a stimulus, which elicits a response, and the response is then reinforced (stimulus, response, reinforcement). This, ultimately, is what conditions our behaviors. Skinner's theory of learning emphasizes the role of reinforcement in shaping and conditioning our behaviors. B.F. Skinner suggested the following five steps to implement behavior change: Step 1: Behavioral Goal Setting A teacher has to first outline the kind of behavior that they expect from their students. For example, a teacher may have consistently energetic students at the beginning of class, and she wishes for the students to focus and settle down more quickly. Step 2: Determine reasonable ways for behavior reinforcement. Naturally, no teacher likes to scold or administer punishments at the beginning of each class. As a result, teachers need to consider how to provide rewards or incentives to students...
